I wrote off the cuff, very impulsively. I make a lot of voice notes, where I record flows which mostly consist only of vowels. I sing a melody with a few catchphrases that come to me while freestyling. That’s the template for the rhythm in the lyrics. In terms of content, it’s usually about things that I didn't dare say to anyone in real life.
The album came out of a bit of a depression. I thought the album was going to be a lot more destructive. I wanted to mix really dark satanistic aesthetics with sweet and fun stuff like the track “Slept For Days”, which sounds like a baby waking up after sleeping for days. I love it when music is ambivalent. The tragic can't do without the comic - that's just life. (laughs) I didn’t perceive “It’s All Good Tho” as an emo epic at first.
At the end of the album, the vibe becomes quite rosy and romantic and forgiving. I realized that I can become much more emotional when I make something sound dirty.
That’s how I create a balance: when things get really cheesy, I add little mistakes, noise and resonances. Basically, that was the attempt: How cheesy can I get and still remain honest?
