A mirror of a thoughtful soul. The kick drum like a baby’s fist in the womb. The backbeats breathe softly into your ear. Lots of bass and space. Especially in the arrangement. Plus soulful choirs and gloomy tracks like “One for the Dead” or “Requiem” as the last track with the sound of funeral bells tolling. Music to ponder.
The current album ‘Womb’ wasn’t even planned in this form. There were nine songs that depicted a stage of my life and they had to come out.
The key track, if you like, is certainly the fabulous Under My Skin, which is included on the short album in both a live and a studio version.
Wandl’s vocals are not only focused on the desire for love and affirmation and have something very primal about them; in fact, at some points the album sounds as if you are listening to it while lying in an amniotic fluid bath in your mother’s womb. The music, which plays in the harsh outside world, only arrives softly and mutedly.
